BMW i8 eDrive Spyder
BMW has revealed the convertible i8 Spyder in Beijing complete with a new moniker - eDrive – to denote plug-in. We knew the BMW i8 Spyder was getting its public debut at the Beijing Motor Show this week because BMW told us. What we didn’t know is that BMW would be adding more confusing nomenclature to their eco i-brand.
Germany plans to charge foreigners to drive on the Autobahn
It seems Germany is planning to charge to use the Autobahn network – just as France does – but it plans to levy the charge just on foreign visitors. The plan is part of a deal by Angela Merkel’s Social Democrat party to form a new coalition and would see all non-German drivers paying a fixed toll to use the Autobahns. But the plan is coming under fire from neighbouring countries (Germany has borders with nine other countries) and even from its own version of the AA – the ADAC – who say the revenue likely to be raised – around £220 million – will do little to address the costs.
As Jaguar confirmed its new F-type sports car at the 2012 New York auto show, it issued some teaser video footage of the new £55,000 roadster landing in showrooms in spring 2013. Jag ambassador and former racer Martin Brundle hitches a lift with the company's chief dynamics engineer Mike Cross for a few hot laps in the F-type prototype around its handling circuit at Gaydon. We can safely ignore the hyperbole poring forth ('It's responsive, it's a great car to drive') but it's a good chance to see the all-aluminium F-type in action.
